Papierfabriek Doetinchem BV, Netherlands

Papierfabriek Doetinchem BV, a Dutch mill producing 100% recycled lightweight MG papers, has invested in two Cross Wrap Bale Dewiring Machines: the first in 2019 and the second in 2023. The primary goal was to automate bale wire removal to improve operator safety and optimize material infeed to the pulping process.

Challenge

The mill processes a wide variety of bale sizes, recycled materials, and tying styles within a tight stock preparation and pulping area. Manual wire cutting was unsafe, labor-intensive, and difficult to standardize, creating challenges for both safety and operational efficiency.

Solution

In 2019, Papierfabriek Doetinchem installed its first modular Cross Wrap Bale Dewiring Machine. The system was retrofitted into a very limited space and configured with only essential options to keep the investment lean while still delivering full automation for cutting, removing, and coiling bale wires.

Satisfied with the results, the mill decided in 2023 to further automate another stock-preparation line by installing a second Dewiring Machine. To ensure long-term performance and reliability, the customer also signed a service agreement for regular maintenance visits and maintains a stock of original Cross Wrap spare parts on site.

Key takeaway

The solution delivered immediate improvements in safety, efficiency, and process consistency. Manual work was significantly reduced, stock preparation became smoother, and the mill’s production team is very satisfied with the full Cross Wrap solution.

We saw the improvements for our process straight away when we started to use the Dewiring Machine.
