SORPA, based in the Reykjavík area (Iceland), is a municipal waste-management company that faced the closure of its local landfill and needed a reliable solution to export refuse-derived fuel (RDF) in a compact, wrapped form. With support from Cross Wrap, SORPA implemented the Bale Wrapper to meet these operational and logistical demands.
With the local landfill closing, SORPA needed to find a way to process incoming waste for export rather than disposal locally. Shipping loose waste was not practical, the company required a system to bale and wrap RDF for efficient transport and incineration abroad.
Cross Wrap supplied the Bale Wrapper, which enabled SORPA to bundle its RDF streams into stable, transport-ready bales. The implementation included installation support and staff training from Cross Wrap’s technicians. Since installation, the system has kept up with production, required only simple maintenance, and delivered reliable performance.
During the startup and implementation of the Cross Wrap machine they exceeded our expectations just by their technicians’ willingness to answer all our questions beforehand, and showing us how to use the machine and what not to do.
– Stefán Freyr Benonýsson, Plant Foreman, SORPA
