“During the startup and implementation of the Cross Wrap machine they exceeded our expectations just by their technicians’ willingness to answer all our questions beforehand, and showing us how to use the machine and what not to do”, says Stefán Freyr Benonýsson, plant foreman at SORPA.

SORPA, an Icelandic waste management company, is using Cross Wrap’s bale wrapper to handle waste for exportation. The smart bale wrappers by Cross Wrap are able to handle even the most challenging waste materials in a way that’s environmentally sustainable, highly scalable, and logistically viable, while maintaining low operational costs.

SORPA is a municipal waste management company serving the Reykjavík area in Iceland. Around two years ago, the local landfill was closing, so SORPA needed a new way to dispose of the incoming waste. As a sustainable solution, the plan was to recycle the waste by exporting it abroad for incineration and conversion into usable energy.

Shipping out loose waste would not be practical, so the company partnered with Cross Wrap to implement a bale wrapping line with a CW2200 Bale Wrapper for the safe and efficient handling of waste for exportation.

– We chose Cross Wrap because we looked into what options were on the market, and their product seemed to fit our needs, says Stefán Freyr Benonýsson, plant foreman at SORPA’s sorting and receiving station in Gufunes, Reykjavík.

Stellar customer support

Benonýsson says the people at Cross Wrap have been very helpful since the beginning. As the machine was being installed, Cross Wrap’s technicians were ready to answer any questions and instruct SORPA’s staff in using the equipment. Once the bale wrapper was in place, it quickly proved capable of effectively securing the incoming waste materials for transportation.

Having since put the machine through its paces over two years of use, Benonýsson can confirm that it has solved the original problem without hampering the operations at SORPA.

– The Cross Wrap machine did not cause any delays in our process and has been able to keep up with all of our production.

CW2200 Bale Wrapper: Simple upkeep and optimization

Jóakim Snorrason, a baling specialist at SORPA’s bale unit, views easy maintenance and reliability as the main benefits of the equipment provided by Cross Wrap. He points to how quickly and easily any issues are corrected and adjustments made when needed.

– All of our problems and fine-tuning have been solved in a matter of minutes. Cross Wrap machines have by far exceeded our expectations.

Benonýsson sums up his thoughts about Cross Wrap by lauding both the CW2200 Bale Wrapper and the overall customer experience around it.

– In our line of work, what you want is reliability. And if something happens, you want great customer service. And we have got that from Cross Wrap. I would recommend Cross Wrap solutions to everyone who’s in the baling and export industry.
