Europress Umwelttechnik GmbH, Germany

Europress-Umwelttechnik GmbH partnered with Cross Wrap to deliver a mobile baling and wrapping unit that combines a twin-ram baler (provided by Europress) with Cross Wrap’s Direct Bale Wrapper. The solution is designed for compacting and securely wrapping artificial mineral fibre in a safe, low-emission operation.

Challenge

Handling used artificial mineral fibre presents significant health and environmental risks: the loose fibres are hazardous, must be contained, and storage/transport must minimise emissions, dust, emission of fibres and risk of environmental contamination. In the previous process, the material was simply deposited at a landfill, covered, and compacted by driving over it. This method is inefficient, risky and labour-intensive.

Solution

The integrated mobile unit combines Europress’s twin-ram baler (210-ton pressing force) and the Cross Wrap Direct Bale Wrapper. The process uses an airlock and suction system: the fibre bags are loaded, material enters the pressing chamber, is compacted into 1100 × 1100 × 1400 mm bales weighing 1.2–1.6 t, then immediately wrapped on all six sides with no bale wires. A negative-pressure, multistage H14-filtered suction system ensures that harmful fibres do not escape. The tracked chassis enables mobility across the site to the required location.

Key takeaway

  • By combining high-force baling with fully enclosed, wire-free wrapping, Europress and Cross Wrap delivered a safer, cleaner, and more efficient handling solution for harmful fibre materials.
  • Mobility built into the unit allows on-site flexibility and reduces material transport overheads.
  • The sealed, wrapped bales allow safer storage and transport, reducing emissions, dust, and risk of contamination.
  • The modular, integrated solution demonstrates how specialist waste streams (e.g., artificial mineral fibre) can be managed with industrial-grade automation and containment.

The Cross Wrap Direct Wrapper, can be equipped with optional wire tying. With this option the baling and wrapping unit can be used for changing purposes and with changing materials by pushing just a few buttons.
