Pabco Paper, California, USA

Pabco Paper produces high-quality paper products for the building and packaging industries. They use 100% recycled fiber, sourced from both pre- and post-consumer waste, to manufacture wallboard lining and specialty paper grades.

Challenge

Previously, ragger rope was formed in the pulper, with its primary purpose being to pull bale wires forward in the process. The ragger rope itself did not add value to production, as the incoming material was already clean, while the formed ragger rope required additional handling, maintenance, and disposal.

As Pabco’s production volumes increased, relying on manual wire removal became inefficient and ragger rope handling unnecessary. Pabco therefore wanted to eliminate ragger rope entirely and replace it with a dedicated, automated solution for bale wire removal.

Solution

With the Cross Wrap Bale Dewiring Machine, bale wires are now removed and coiled before entering the pulper, eliminating the ragger rope formation. This results in a cleaner pulping process, reduced wear on pulper components, improved operational stability, and the ability to recover and sell the removed metal wires instead of treating them as waste.

With wire removal automated, the workforce is freed up for more productive tasks, and the production flow runs smoothly and continuously.

Key takeaway

  • Automated bale wire removal without manual handling
  • Reduced wear on the pulper rotor and extraction plates
  • Continuous, stable infeeding process
  • Lower maintenance costs and improved operational efficiency
  • Additional revenue from recycled metal wires

I am very satisfied with how Cross Wrap handled the machine installation – extremely flexible, and the service was truly professional.

Also, their response to challenges was fast and solution-oriented. I can highly recommend Cross Wrap, and when our capacity grows, we will definitely be in contact with them again.
