20 years of Italian Waste Site story
Why over 80% of Italian waste-based fuel professionals use Cross Wrappers for exporting?
“After our meeting Angelo said to me: there is a project, you visit now! I was bit hesitating since it was almost Christmas. However, I did as I was told and travelled to Rome to see this customer. The customer was the one and only Lawyer Cerroni. ” – Kalle comments the trip to open the Italian market back in 1997.
20 years of Italian Waste Site story – Why over 80% of Italian waste-based fuel professionals use Cross Wrappers for exporting?
In December 1997, Cross Wrap’s Italian story began when I was still at the playground and mainly waiting for the Santa Clause. Meanwhile, my father Kalle Kivelä the founder of Cross Wrap was visiting Macpresse in Milan. This visit was a game-changer for us. “After our meeting, Angelo said to me: there is a project, you visit now! I was a bit hesitating since it was almost Christmas. However, I did as I was told and traveled to Rome to see this customer. The customer was the one and only Lawyer Cerroni.”, –Kalle comments on the trip to open the Italian market back in 1997.
After one month the customer flew to Finland to see our wrapping machine and the new technology waste to energy facility. Within the same year, the first machines were installed in Italy. Ever since Cross Wrap has been grateful to be the market-leading wrapping machine solution for waste-based materials in Italy and other international markets.
Malagrotta Cross Wrapping since 1999
One of the most famous projects from those old days, yet active also today is Rome´s waste facility Malagrotta build by Sorain Cecchini. The first machine was delivered ´99 to Malagrotta I. Followed by two more wrapping machines in 2007 to Malagrotta II. The two machines were recently upgraded with the Tosibox modem enabling remote service access, remote upgrading possibility, and effective production supervision.
From Northern Italy to Naples from Naples to Palermo
Since 2017 I have been following my dad’s footsteps as the sales manager and responsible for the Italian market. I have had the opportunity to work with today’s waste market leaders from Italy. Today Cross Wrap machines have conquered Italy from the north of Milan to the south of Sicily. We consider Naples as the capital of CW wrapping machines. There are more than 20 units installed in the region. Mr. Bernardino Filipponi from the company Vibeco operating in Naples comments:
“We chose Cross-Wrap because we believe it is the undisputed leader of this equipment. The purchased machine has been working for 4 years in very severe conditions and we have never had any problems. Excellent Italian assistance with the company from Verona, whose technicians are always available to provide clarifications and collaboration.”

Mr. Geatano Rubino, the owner of Rekogest, describes his CW 2200 wrapping machine after successful installation, start-up, and training on a sunny autumn day 2019 in Palermo.
As an enthusiastic family company serving our customers in the niche market of bale wrapping; we are motivated to work, assist, give our 100% professionalism and know-how to meet the customer needs, schedule and goals. In practice, we can show this motivation by flexibility in delivery times, quick installations, rapid reactiveness in support, and proactive sales.
Exporting Cross Wrap style
Like the quality material of Rekogest, and about 80% of the total exported Italian waste-based fuels and waste from mechanical waste treatment plants (SRF/RDF 191210, 191212) are wrapped with Cross Wrap machinery. In the yearly level, Italy exports more than 450 000 tons of waste-based material to countries such as Bulgaria, Germany, Austria, Portugal, Denmark, Spain, Croatia, and Greece. Over 60% of the total waste-based material exported is alternative fuel and waste from mechanical waste treatment plants (191210 191212, in European terms RDF/SRF). All together Cross Wrap has installed over 40 machines in Italy and the latest just arrived in Naples in May.
Italy has been an important market throughout Cross Wrap´s 26-year Waste Site story. We all at Cross Wrap want to thank everybody who has been part of this; partners, service suppliers, spare part resellers, clients, friends, and all shareholders without you this would have not been possible.
I trust on Italy as one of the European leaders of alternative fuel exporters and the promised country of quality recycling equipment. Cross Wrap is looking forward to serving the Italian existing and new customers as the leading technology for wrapping waste-based material at least for few more decades.
During challenging times, the best option is to trust that by cooperating and supporting all stakeholders of the industry; we will all come out of this stronger than we were!
I am highly motivated and dedicated to work and co-operate with all of you in the Italian waste and recycling industry.
