Industrial plastic recycling includes many stages. The goal is to shred the plastic material as small as possible for granulation or other further stages of the process. Ideally, the plastic shredding process is smooth, efficient and cost-effective. The first step in the process is most likely opening the plastic material bales and feeding the material, such as PET, HDPE, LDPE and mixed plastics, into the operation line.

Add dewiring into your plastic shredding process – save in maintenance costs

Often, a plastic shredder is used to open and crush the whole bale. While the method is straightforward, it doesn’t pay attention to the metal wires holding the bale together. They go into the shredder and cause wear and tear in the machinery, resulting in maintenance costs. Hence, the plastic shredding process benefits from dewiring the bales before they go into the shredder.

The dewiring machine cuts the metal wires and separates them from the bale. When the metal wires are removed from the bale as early in the process as possible, they do not cause problems for other machines further on the line.

Dewiring makes the material infeed in the beginning of your plastic shredding process fully automated and enables smooth and continuous material flow in the next steps in the process. In addition, as the bale gets opened, it breaks down to slices that are faster for a shredder or a bale breaker to handle.

Customers have reported 50% less wear and tear in their shredders when using the dewiring solutions.

Cross Wrap’s Dewiring machine

Cross Wrap’s Dewiring machine and the Coil Shredder add-on

CW Dewiring machines are used all around the world, with around 130 installings. We were the first ones to offer a solution for the automatic dewiring of bales in the plastic recycling field.
We offer solutions for both horizontal and cross-wired bales. A bale turning unit can be installed in front of the CW Dewiring machine, enabling the dewiring of cross-wired bales. This solution is a good fit for you if your facility takes in cross-wired or both horizontally and cross-wired bales.
Our dewiring solutions provide advantages such as smooth material from and low operating and maintenance costs.

Cross Wrap’s Coil Shredder

The CW Dewiring machine coils the metal wires into tight coils for easy storage and
transportation. A cleaner metal side stream can be achieved with our Coil shredder add-on. It shreds both the coils and the material tangled in them into small pieces. A magnetic separator helps to separate the metal from the leftover material that can be circulated back into your plastic shredding process.

A cleaner metal side stream from plastic shredding is attractive to recyclers and may even increase your profit. Cross Wrap’s shredding machine is small and compact, and specifically designed to work alongside the Dewiring machine.
